Mechanical Engineer

BioAtlantis Ltd. (est. 2004) is a Kerry-based biotechnology company specializing in the manufacture of products for modulating defense, immunity, microbiota and performance in crop biostimulant and monogastric health markets. We are currently recruiting a Mechanical Engineer who will develop systems and processes for our new production facility in Tralee.

Duties & responsibilities
• Project manage the installation of mechanical equipment, pipework and valve systems in a new facility.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities to ensure installation meet legal and planning requirements.
• Production of detailed schematics.
• Work with quality control, service and manufacturing departments in the design of processes that ensure product quality meet the requirements of HACCP.
• Liaise with Suppliers on new machines and components as required.
• Liaise with electrical engineering functions in the company to develop systems that allow for full automation control.
• Review existing processes to improve productivity and reduce manufacturing costs.
• Troubleshooting problems and optimize plant performance.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
• Qualified mechanical/chemical engineer.
• Project management and control.
• Ability with autocad is essential and use of solid works is advantageous.
• Person with both mechanical and automation capabilities will be considered favourably.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Manage the revision of drawings to produce the as built drawings.
• Minimum of 3 years design experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Ideally experience in the food, pharma, process industry sectors

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Responsible for implementing and managing all aspects of sales of BioAtlantis’ biostimulant product range in Ireland and UK.
• Develop an in depth understanding of customer needs and requirements
• Develop a strong understanding of the scientific basis for increasing crop growth and yield.
• Transferring agronomic knowledge to customers on BioAtlantis’ biostimulant products.
• Registration of products as required.
• Meet sales targets.

Requirements, Qualifications and Experience:
• The role requires an individual with ambition, integrity and drive, coupled to a proven experience in technical sales.
• The candidate should have a third level qualification(s), preferably in the natural sciences.
• Previous experience in the agricultural sector is advantageous, particularly in the area of agronomy.

Research Chemist (BSc or higher)

The candidates will play a key role in implementing the development of new technologies and products. The role involves a number of cutting edge collaborations between BioAtlantis and major universities worldwide, including EU Horizon 2020 projects. The position is located in Tralee, Co. Kerry, Ireland. 

Role/duties:
• Develop extraction and purification procedures for natural products at lab scale. 
• Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis on raw materials using laboratory analytical techniques and experimentation.
• Make stable and efficient formulations to meet desired specifications in plant bioscience and animal food area.
• Optimize formulated ingredients to meet cost objectives and to manage availability of raw materials.
• Conduct stability testing and record results.
• Plan, execute and monitor laboratory research programs and technologies and manage daily laboratory operations.
• Monitor equipment operations and maintain cleanliness in the laboratory.
• Follow industry standards on scientific significance, accuracy, safety and record keeping

Qualifications & experience
• BSc. or higher in chemistry, pharmacy, food science or chemical engineering. MSc./PhD is advantageous.
• In depth knowledge of inorganic and organic chemistry.
• Knowledge of applied mathematics and physical chemistry is advantageous.

Roles/Duties
• Perform mathematical calculations for various processes involving flow dynamics and energy calculations.
• Design production-scale equipment based on procedures developed at lab scale.
• Identify and interact with potential suppliers for various manufacturing/lab instruments.
• Review existing processes for efficiency and make changes to achieve same.

Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor or Masters in Chemical Engineering.
• Three years industrial experience in a food, pharma, natural products or bulk chemical industry.
• Knowledge of chemistry and experience in scale-up of lab processes to production scale is an added advantage.
• Knowledge of CAD and solid works.
• Knowledge of computers and operations is an advantage.

• To establish robust experiments in the area of abiotic and biotic stress resistance, plant strengthening and plant nutrition. 
• To work on plant-microbe interactions and biological control.
• Performing greenhouse, polyhouse and field trials.
• Statistical analysis and report writing.
• Crop trial management, prepare and present research data.

Skills:
• Agronomic knowledge in crop production.

Regulatory Affairs/Product Registrations Specialist.

The specialist will play a vital role in driving the company’s expansion globally and ensuring that new and existing products reach the market place effectively. The position is located in Tralee, Co. Kerry, Ireland. 

Role/duties:
• Implement all aspects of product registrations worldwide.
• Registration and preparation of applications for approval of biostimulants, plant strengtheners, biospesticides, feed additives and food supplements.
• Liaise with distributors in order to understand regulations and support registrations in regions where products are to be sold.
• Write dossiers and successfully liaise with regulators and regulatory bodies.
• Ensure compliance with organic, environmental and other relevant certification bodies.
• Ensure products meet compliance, standards and legal requirements in all countries where they are sold.
• Preparation of labels and directions for use.
• Classification and labelling of chemical substances and mixtures according to the CLP regulation.
• Authoring of Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), as well as other product safety documents.
• Provide necessary certification and documentation for import and export of materials.

Qualifications and experience
• Significant experience in a product compliance or regulatory affairs role in the agri-chemical or similar industry, focused on product registration and regulatory matters.
• BSc. or higher in chemistry, biochemistry, engineering, environmental science or related subject.
• Knowledge of REACH, government regulations, crop, feed additive and food supplement regulations.
• Fluency in English and preferably a second language such as Spanish.

Nematologist with soil science background

Role/duties:

We are recruiting a Nematologist with soil science background, who will join the R&D team and drive the development of novel products that sustainably enhance crop yield in a variety of soil agro ecosystems. The role will involves a number of cutting edge collaborations between BioAtlantis and major universities worldwide, including EU Horizon 2020 projects. The position is located in Tralee, Co. Kerry, Ireland. 

Specific tasks:
• Contribute experimentally and intellectually to develop a robust methods for nematode control in plants at in house and field trial level.
• Discover new methods of controlling nematodes.
• Communicate and guide the R&D team working on plant-nematode interactions.
• Maintain nematode colonies and establish new colonies.
• Develop and improve bioassays for studying plant nematode interactions and resistance.

Skills & Experience:
• Must be highly skilled in nematode culturing and extraction
• Expertise in conducting greenhouse and field trials is required.
• Excellent agronomic skills, practical expertise and knowledge of plant-nematode interactions is required.
• Previous experience working with a range of crops, plant parasitic nematodes and soil ecosystems.
• Expertise in field sampling, crop monitoring, sample collection, processing and statistical analysis.
• Proficiency in microscopy, with quantification and identification of various plant parasitic nematodes an advantage.
• Experience in agrochemical handling and application; ensuring compliance with all field quality and safety standards and SUD regulations.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to analyse technical issues, develop and execute solution/mitigation strategies.
• Competent in experimental design, statistical analysis and technical report writing.

Qualifications & experience
• BSc. or higher in nematology or soil microbiology. MSc./PhD is advantageous.
• Experience working in product development in the industrial setting, would be advantageous.
